Hadith Database – Problematic Ahadith and Their Explanation

***This page is a work in progress. As the ahadith are very commonly used by non-Muslim apologists and hadith rejectors against Muslims, it is important to analyze their claims and respond with reasonable arguments. As the database grows, ahadith will be separated into categories (i.e., “Science”, “War/Violence”, etc.). Readers are encouraged to submit questions and answers to common arguments raised by the apologists.***

    Okay here is the ahadith:
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah said:
“It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), telling us the story of one of the Prophets: ‘His people beat him, and he was wiping the blood from his face and saying: “O Lord forgive my people, for they do not know.’”

    https://sunnah.com/ibnmajah/36/100
The Bible has a similar verse in Luke:
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”
    https://biblehub.com/luke/23-34.htm
So first I checked to see if the Christians just applied it to Isa(as) and another Prophet said itbut it doesn’t appear so.

Assalamualaikum, have you heard of the claim that slave-women used to be half-baked? It is alleged that Sunan Abi Dawud 4114, Book 34, Hadith 95 proves that slave-women can and did roam barebreasted in public. Is this true or is the Hadith stipulating that only the Master can see the awrah besides the navel and the knees?

      I need help

  2. I have added the first hadith and its explanation. This hadith is very popular among the anti-Islamic apologists, but many Muslims are also at fault for spreading this misunderstanding of a weak hadith.

  3. I decided to change the format somewhat. Instead of putting every hadith together in one list, I will publish them separately and then just leave a link on this page.

That being said, the next publication is done. This one is about the idiotic controversy created by over-imaginative (and possibly sexually-frustrated) trolls on the Prophet putting his tongue in Hasan’s mouth.

The hadith means you can no longer look at the slave’s awrah as you are no longer a mahram to her. Here’s a variant of the hadith which just says her awrah generally:
        Narrated ‘Amr b. Suh’aib:

On his father’s authority, said that his grandfather reported the Prophet (ﷺ) said: When one of you marries his male-slave to his slave-woman, he should not look at her private parts.

How can she not be a mahram when the master can see anything else besides that which is between the navel and the knees? By not being a mahram you’re not allowed to see anything, but here he is allowed to see what is above the navel and the knees. Please clarify.

Can you tell me the grade of this hadith no well known hadith scholar has ever graded it that I know of but many anti Islamic polemists are using this and they allege that it is sahih.
Zayd Bin Hubab <– Hammad Bin Salamah <– Iyas Bin Muawiyah: regarding a man who brought a pre-pubescent slave girl, do not those like her have sexual intercourse? He said: “there is nothing wrong with performing the sexual act upon her without observing istibra” Musannaf Ibn Shaybah 16907. Even Musannaf Ibn Shaybah 16906 is similar and Islamophobes alleged that Ibn Hajar also had a similar view.

    1. Hey Heath, do you know if Bart Ehrman ever talked about marriage in the time of Jesus on his blog? I’m specifically looking for any discussion of the marriageable age. I already know it was 12 but I just want to know if Ehrman ever talked about it.

  5. Was checking out the blog Vaqas sent some days ago, and found an article using this hadith as argument…

    https://theislamissue.wordpress.com/2020/03/08/abu-darda-testifies-to-quranic-corruption/

Narrated Ibrahim: The companions of ‘Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) came to Abu Darda’, (and before they arrived at his home), he looked for them and found them. Then he asked them: ‘Who among you can recite (Qur’an) as ‘Abdullah recites it?” They replied, “All of us.” He asked, “Who among you knows it by heart?” They pointed at ‘Alqama. Then he asked Alqama. “How did you hear ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud reciting Surat Al-Lail (The Night)?” Alqama recited: ‘By the male and the female.’ Abu Ad-Darda said, “I testify that I heard the Prophet reciting it likewise, but these people want me to recite it:– ‘And by Him Who created male and female.’ but by Allah, I will not follow them.”
    Bukhari 4944

Barely any website addresses this issue except that of brother Zawadi

Man talking about hadiths i really miss the days of Multaqa ahl hadith, this forum was the best for analyzing hadiths and clearing matters…it’s now gone, thousands of precious research simply vanished…i wonder which genius had the idea of closing it, now i’ll have to beg people to help whenever i have to clear out issues pertaining to the hadiths, the only person who stayed patient with me back then was Farid, now he’s famous most probably my dms will go unnoticed…his ex colleagues and islamqa are the only option left, that’s why learning Arabic is important for all of us…but we can still work on making another forum can’t we, where people could come asking questions specifically for obscure matters such as these but the question is who’s ready to help…either way we have islamqa which is better than nothing

problematic biblical verses which crosstian polytheists abuse to make a case for worshipping god as a human being :

1: does yhwh take a nap in the psalsms?

With this context, I wouldn’t say that we can take the “sleep” part literally, because the psalmist (from what I see) is asking God “Why are you sleeping?” as “Why are you silent and still rejecting us?” kind of thing, like if God’s “sleeping” which is obviously a state where you are silent and don’t do anything (or in this case a particular action which some people are wait when you’ll do)

    end quote

so yes, yhwh does literally sleep, but sleep is not meant the sleep of a human .

“Just look at the supposed “evidence.” Aside from Paul, who just claimed to have a vision/revelation, all the others who were said to have “seen” Jesus after his death were either already close followers of his or knew him very well before he died. Doesn’t that look a little suspicious, as if it’s what we’d expect from a small insular cult? No appearance to Pilate, the Romans or those Jewish leaders responsible for his death. It would be much better evidence if Jews who weren’t already followers of his claimed to have seen something in Jerusalem. Apologists like to make a big deal out of Paul’s conversion since he was an enemy of the faith. But what about all those Jews in Jerusalem who were there to witness or hear about the events firsthand? If Paul’s conversion is evidence for the truth of Christianity then the lack of Jewish conversion around the time of the events is evidence against Christianity. Most Jews did not convert which obviously means the evidence wasn’t very compelling.”

so when a crosstian says jesus has “immortal life” (if he died he wasnt immortal to begin with) , then how can anyone know? You cant unless the story said that jesus went to pilate, got crucified SECOND time and DIED. the best the crosstian has is that jesus like elijah was DEPENDANT on the WILL of God to exist and jesus’ will is not the will of God “not my will but your will”

    @ Affan

I don’t know about hadith enough to comment but i do have some background in fiqh. The person actually shoots themselves in the foot in the discussion when they bring the sahih hadith from Sunan Dawood:

Abu Sa’id Al Khudri traced to Prophet (ﷺ) the following statement regarding the captives taken at Atwas. There must be no intercourse with pregnant woman till she gives birth to her child or with the one who is not pregnant till she has had one menstrual period.
    https://sunnah.com/abudawud/12/112

You can quote as many Sahaba,Tabieen and Ulema you want until the cow comes home but none of them can override the command of the Prophet(saw) and we would just say the people quoted weren’t aware of this hadith. And Allah hu alim.

Ok thanks, I was thinking about something similar too. The fact is that the hadith that these Islamophobes used was never quoted in any fiqh. Yeah they even quoted the Kuwaiti encyclopedia which said that all concubines must observe istibra (one menstrual period) after but then they tried to revert this and say that istibra could also be 1 month or something like that.
