Race isn’t a social construct when people naturally feel more comfortable and do better when surrounded by people of the same race as them.

Well, that is the result of social conditioning rather than biology. That’s the point that scientists are making. Genetically, there is very little difference between the different “races”. We are conditioned to be more “comfortable” around people of our own “ancestry”. This is the term scientists now prefer to use rather than “race”.
In Islam, there is no race. We are all slaves of Allah. The only thing that separates us is our piety.

Of course there are differences between people, based on ethnicity for example. But the notion of several “races” has been largely laid to rest by advancements in genetics. There is really only one “race” and that is the human race.

The following is from the book “Human Heredity: Principles and Issues”, 11th Edition, by Michael Cummings:
“Given the very low levels of genetic variation present in the human genome and its distribution, is there any reason to divide our species into races? At present, the vast majority of geneticists would answer no to that question and agree that there is currently no genetic basis for subdividing our species into racial groups.” (p. 423)

Do people still think “race” exists? Common sense is you simply have groups/ subgroups of cultures. For example, a black person from America, and a black person from Britain are DRASTICALLY different. If I take someone caucasian and place them in the ghetto, they will adopt mannerisms from the environment. This has nothing to do with “race” but upbringing. Europe is living proof of this, a white Englishman and a Belgian are DRASTICALLY different from one another. Yes, there are similarities because of shared geography (which results in some cultural cross-pollination) But the concept of being separate “races” (like some sort of RPG) is not true. It’s simply humans placed in different environments.

Oh, but I did think about it we do have a bias for things that look similar to us though and this could be what is affecting certain people’s thinking about being more comfortable with certain groups.

Definitely, there is a bias, but it’s a cultural and social bias, not something that is ingrained.

Yes, it’s the result of thousands of years of social conditioning. But genetically, there is no basis for separating humans into “races”. If you put a group of large breeding population of white people in Africa, then after a few generations, they will probably start exhibiting African characteristics, such as dark skin. This is an adaptation to cope with the hot climate and exposure to the sun’s rays. The body produces more melanin to protect the body from the sun.
